Derelict site in Ripon finally sold off for redevelopment

Derelict council land, regarded as an eyesore, has finally been sold.

The site in Ripon had been owned by North Yorkshire County Council and the more recently formed North Yorkshire Council. For decades it’s been seen as blighting adjacent residential property.

Last week it was sold off to the partners of the 8 Park Street doctor’s surgery following intervention by Independent Councillor Andrew Williams who represents Ripon Minster and Moorside Ward on North Yorkshire Council.

The former snooker hall, which contains asbestos is set to be demolished to provide parking for those using the doctor’s surgery.

Welcoming the sale, Cllr Williams said “ I am delighted that we have managed to persuade North Yorkshire Council to dispose of this site.

“It is a win for the local community that will now see this derelict blight on the landscape removed. It will enable the doctor’s surgery to provide an area for their patients to park and it provides North Yorkshire Council with a capital receipt that can be invested into other projects.”
