Another arson attempt at York estate hit by anti-social behaviour

Fire crews were called to another incident at a trouble-hit estate last night (Thursday).

There has been a series of problems at Derwenthorpe in recent weeks.

York firefighters went to Derwenthorpe Children’s Park at Lotherington Mews at 7.55pm.

Incident location

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York responded to a report of youths setting a fire on a bench near the pond.

“After through inspection the crew located evidence of an unsuccessful attempt to start a fire.”

It was the second similar incident in weeks. On Wednesday, 25 March, firefighters went to reports of a swing on fire at the play area.

And police arrested one youth and stepped up their patrols in Derwenthorpe last week, responding to reports of anti-social behaviour there.
