Emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision on the A63, next to the Owl Hotel, involving three vehicles including a Tanker.
A road closure is in place and both motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue says: “Selby, Tadcaster and Tadcaster’s Incident Support Unit are monitoring a HGV carrying Ethanol which was involved in a road traffic collision earlier.
“Advice is being given to local residents from fire service personnel and police.”
The Air Ambulance has been at the scene and two people are in hospital.
Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, is a clear colourless liquid with a characteristic alcohol odour. Ethanol occurs naturally and may also be man-made.
