A mega 12-hour Zumbathon will take place in York this weekend, bringing together fitness fans and the local community for a full day of Latin-inspired moves and fundraising.
The event has been organised by local instructor Sophia Fisher, who runs York Zumba with Sophia, and will be held at the Poppleton Centre from 8am to 8pm on Saturday 3 January.
The fundraiser is being held to support Emma Ward, a York mum living with an aggressive grade 4 brain tumour and seeking potentially life-extending treatment.
Sophia will be joined by five other instructors, with sessions changing on the hour throughout the day.
The all day Zumbathon is open to all ages and abilities. There will be a Zumba Gold session at 11am for those wanting a lower-impact workout, and a Z’ombre session at 1pm aimed at encouraging male participants.
People can drop in at any time throughout the day and take part in the Zumba for as long or as little as they wish. Entry costs £10 per adult, with under-14s going free.
There will also be food stalls and raffle tickets on sale, with all proceeds from the event going to charity Brainstrust to help Emma.
Sophia said: “It’s going to be an incredible event for all ages, and a chance to feel part of something really special. No experience is necessary, and it’s the perfect way to shake off the Christmas indulgence with a day of amazing Zumba, as six instructors come together to create this mega 12-hour Zumbathon.
“This event is really important in raising funds to support Emma in accessing treatment to help her have more time with her family.”
Donations can also be made to Emma’s fundraising appeal via Emma’s official JustGiving page.
