York restaurant wins in national curry awards

A York restaurant has been named a winner in prestigious national awards.

Masala Craft, on Walmgate in York, has been crowned the Bar Curry Restaurant of the Year at the Nation’s Curry Awards 2026, by Oceanic Awards.

The awards event aims to recognise and celebrate the talents and hard work of individuals and businesses within the UK’s curry industry.

It also celebrates the UK’s rich and diverse curry culture and encourages the continued growth and evolution of the industry.

The Indian tapas restaurant has operated at 72 Walmgate since 2023, replacing the former Penny’s Bespoke Foodhouse. It relocated from its previous venue on King’s Street due to rising costs.

On its website, Masala Craft is described to bring ‘authentic street food flavours to your table with passion and tradition’, and the menu features classics like pakora, tikka masala, chana dal, saag paneer, keema pav, and much more.

The winners were announced at an awards ceremony that took place this week on Monday 9 February at the Cedar Court Huddersfield Hotel in Huddersfield.

Yasmin Mahmood, CEO of Oceanic Awards said: “We’re proud to once again celebrate the finest in the UK’s curry scene, recognising the creativity, innovation, and exceptional service that have become synonymous with this beloved cuisine.

“The UK’s curry industry is a vital part of our culture, and these awards recognised the exceptional talents of the individuals and businesses that make it so special.

“We’d like to congratulate all of our winners on their incredible accomplishments.”
