York-based poet Stu Freestone will launch his debut poetry collection later this month in a special evening of performance and music.
A co-founder and associate artist of Say Owt, Stu Freestone has become a distinctive voice on the UK spoken-word scene.
His work is written in a playful style rooted in everyday moments; drawing from family stories, kitchen tables, pub corners, and stages across the country, his poetry celebrates ordinary lives with extraordinary care.
Blending conversational humour with emotional honesty, Freestone’s writing explores love, loss, resilience, and the quiet lights that carry us through. The Lights That Blur Between has been written over years, shaped on stage, and finally brought to life at The Crescent York on Monday 30 March.
Freestone has performed across the UK, including multiple runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, appearances on BBC platforms, and was shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Performer at the Saboteur Awards in 2015.
He has shared stages with internationally renowned artists including Shane Koyczan, Hollie McNish, Sage Francis, B. Dolan, Dizraeli, and Harry Baker, and has recorded live sessions for BBC Introducing and BBC Upload.
The launch event promises an evening of powerful performance and heartfelt storytelling, including two sets from Stu, one of which is a performance with a live band and support coming from northern performance poet Sarah Armitage and emotive singer-songwriter Adam Leeson.
This special hometown launch celebrates not only a debut collection, but years of live performance, community-building, and a voice that has resonated in venues across the country.
Tickets start from £8 and are available here.
