York MP’s response to Prime Minister’s first speech

In his first address as Prime Minister, Andy Burnham acknowledged that he is Britain’s seventh leader in a decade and vowed to usher in a “circuit breaker moment” to change the direction of government.

David Lammy and Steve Reed announced their departures from the government.

Not everyone feels the same way though. York Central MP Rachael Maskell gave her response:

“Today doesn’t just mark a new chapter, but a new story, built around families and communities, starting with those with the least, those without even a roof to provide shelter. We can all be hopeful when a Prime Minister understands the challenges people face and is giving his all to resolve them, inviting us all to solve the injustices we see around us and to rebuild our country. I am so looking forward to being the voice of York Central as part of this new administration and want every person in our community to know that they are part of this too.”
