York to pay giant tribute to Sir David Attenborough as he turns 100

On the day that Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday, it’s been revealed that York is paying a giant tribute to this national treasure.

York Maze has announced that this year’s design will honour of the veteran broadcaster and naturalist.

The giant corn maze is set to feature an image of Sir David surrounded by some of the iconic animals featured in his nature programmes.

Farmer and maze master Tom Pearcy says; “We are announcing the theme a bit earlier
than usual this year to coincide with Sir David’s 100th birthday today.

“I grew up watching David Attenborough, he is an icon of British broadcasting and I’m honoured to make my contribution to his 100th birthday celebrations.

“Over a million maize seeds have been planted in the 15 acre field. We will cut the image into the field once the plants start to emerge, then when the crop is fully grown by mid July the image of David Attenborough will be revealed in the maze of pathways.”
