A senior figure has stepped down from the top tier of the council in York.
Cllr Michael Pavlovic has quit his role as City of York Council’s Labour administration’s housing, planning and communities spokesperson to spend more time with his family and on other projects.
The outgoing executive member said he was proud to leave office after working to get rough sleeping down and getting York its first Local Plan in decades.
Council Labour Leader Cllr Claire Douglas said Cllr Pavlovic, of Hull Road ward, had done an absolutely fantastic job over the last three years.
It comes as Labour Heworth ward councillor Anna Perrett and Guildhall’s Cllr Dave Merrett have been appointed to fill two new executive roles created from Cllr Pavlovic’s portfolio.
Cllr Perrett, who returned as a councillor after winning the Heworth by-election in January, has been named as the council’s communities executive member.
A new housing and planning executive member position has been given to Cllr Merrett who was first elected in 2003 and has held a number of roles in the council.
Cllr Pavlovic, who is set to remain a Labour ward councillor, said it had been an honour and privilege to serve as executive member.
He added his departure came after no one with a York connection was found to have been sleeping rough in the city in recent weeks.
The councillor said: “We’ve achieved a great deal, but I feel now is the time to pass the baton on to someone else.
“No one with a local connection to York sleeping on York’s streets is something I list as my proudest achievement and couldn’t be happier about it.
“Getting the city’s first development plan for more than 70 years approved has been another highlight and I want to thank all the council officers and partners who’ve helped deliver these and other successes.”
