York flat evacuated after cooking fumes set off alarm

A York flat was evacuated after it filled with cooking fumes.

Fire crews were called to Alma Terrace at 6.58pm last night (Friday).

The occupant had reported smoke inside their flat which had activated an alarm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Control staff made contact with the occupant prior to fire crews’ arrival and discovered the smoke was from cooking fumes.

“The occupant was advised to leave their property and await fire crews arrival so that an inspection could be completed.

“The property was naturally ventilated and advice was given to the occupant.”
