York fireworks display raises ‘phenomenal’ amount for charity

A York fireworks display has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity, at their 2025 event.

The Rawcliffe Park Bonfire and Fireworks Display 2025, took place a month ago on 8 November at Rawcliffe County Park.

The event, which was hosted by YorkMix, was a huge success with all proceeds going towards the Fire Fighters Charity, who provide wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families.

And the total raised was revealed yesterday (Monday) to be a spectacular £41,936.51, in a special handover ceremony.

The charity bonfire and firework display is co-organised by volunteers Bruce Reid and Terrence Gregg.

Yesterday, outside York Minster, Bruce handed over the extraordinary cheque to Ellie Rocks, director of fundraising at The Fire Fighters Charity, accompanied by Tez, members of the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service who supported the event, and infrastructure company Murphy who provided things like tower lighting and temporary roadways for the event.

“I’m absolutely chuffed to bits,” Bruce told YorkMix. “It’s the recognition of all the hard work and effort that goes into this event.

“We’ve met obstacles over the years and we’ve overcome them, and now we’ve got it firmly established.

“It’s a really good event, not just for the amount of money that was raised for the charity, but also for the community of York and I know for a fact that loads of people enjoy it. We’re really proud to be part of it.”

The event saw thousands of people of all ages enjoy pyrotechnics, funfair, stage entertainment, and food and drink.

The annual event is in its 14th year of the display and there’s no signs of slowing down or stopping. Planning has already started for next years fireworks event, which takes place on Saturday, 7 November 2026.

“I am so grateful to Bruce and Tez for the phenomenal amount raised for the Fire Fighters Charity by the Rawcliffe Park Bonfire and Fireworks Display,” said Ellie.

“Events like these allow the charity to continue to support the Fire Service Community with their health and wellbeing. Fire Fighters run towards danger for us, the charity makes sure they never have to face the impact of service alone.”
