A shop that has been trading in York for 41 years will close its doors for good next month.
Lakeland Leather will soon be departing its home on Stonegate. It has now launched a closing down sale.
The retailer, a specialist in leather and sheepskin, is known for designing its own bags and jackets.
In February, it was revealed that three of its outlets were to go in Carlisle, Gretna and Kendal.
Now York’s Lakeland Leather is going the same way.
A spokesperson for Felldale Retail which operates the stores said: “Following a period of consultation, we have taken the difficult decision to close our York store, with the final day of trading expected to be in May.
“Despite exploring a range of options with the store team, it has not been possible to identify a sustainable way for the store to continue trading in its current form.
“While this announcement relates to York, it forms part of a wider review of a number of stores across our retail estate.”

Lakeland Leather began in 1955 when Jack Standring opened his first shop in Ambleside. After York goes it will have ten shops left.
The spokesperson added: ““As part of the closure process, the store is holding a closing down sale, with all remaining stock significantly reduced and available while supplies last.
“Our immediate priority is to support our colleagues through this process, and we are working closely with the team to provide practical support, including assistance with finding alternative employment.
“We would like to sincerely thank our York customers for their loyalty and support over the years. It has been a privilege to serve the local community and be a part of York‘s high street. The brand are looking for alternative options in York.”
