York charity announce chart-topping special guest for annual live event

York-based men’s mental health charity Menfulness have today (Friday) announced a special guest for their live event later this year.

The now annual Menfulness Live event will take place on Saturday 29 August at the Grand Opera House York – and joining them as the headline guest is chart-topping singer songwriter JP Cooper.

JP will talk about his mental health journey and play a few stripped back tracks in a unique and intimate part of the night.

Known for his top 10 singles ‘Perfect Strangers’ and ‘September Song’, the Manchester-based artist returns to York for the first time since 2023 when he played at the York Barbican.

Menfulness trustee, Matty Lewis, said: “Menfulness Live has become a key part of our calendar, showcasing the charity to new and existing people wanting to hear more about our work we do in men’s mental health.

“Owing to our amazing partnership with the Grand Opera House, we were blessed to be able to use them as our location for the 2026 event – and wanting to do the venue justice we thought we would ask our friend JP Cooper to come along and feature on the night.”

JP Cooper said: “Menfulness have been chatting with me for a while. I’ve been watching the work that they’ve been doing, and it’s incredible bringing fellas together to talk openly about things that fellas don’t talk about enough.

“So I’ll be chatting a little bit, singing a little bit, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!”

More special guests are set to be announced over the coming weeks, in what promises to be an impactful and entertaining evening.

YorkMix are proud to be media partners for this event. Tickets are on sale now at £25 via the theatre website.
