York brewery’s birthday party features music, street food and 120 beers!

Brew York is preparing to celebrate its tenth birthday this weekend – with live music, street food and over 120 beers.

The brewery, founded in 2016 by friends Wayne Smith and Lee Grabham, will be
opening the doors of their Obsbaldwick brewery on Friday 17 April at 5pm for the start of their birthday bash.

Over the course of two days, they plan to welcome more than 1,500 beer fans to mark the milestone anniversary.

Attendees can expect a line-up of beers from Brew York and guest breweries around the world.

Several bars will be serving Brew York beers, such as signature pours Hop Cat, Coney, Time Travelling Taxi and Golden Eagle as well as seasonal specials (Cypress Pils, Muffin Else Matters, Teleporter) and ‘revisited’ classics (Brew York Brew York, Viking DNA).

Brew York has invited 10 breweries to represent the best of European craft beer – including Frontaal Brewing (The Netherlands), OSO (Spain), Sudden Death (Germany), TO ØL (Denmark).

Each brewery will also have a special collaboration beer launched by Brew York – with the first four pouring at the event and the following six to follow throughout 2026.

The two-day event will also include brewery tours, live music performances, talks and tastings, and street food vendors – with tempting tasty offerings from Brew+Slice, Good Boy Burger, Yuzu, Piquante Street Kitchen, and Divine Coffee Roasters.

Lee Grabham, production director and co-founder, said: “We’re so proud in what we have achieved in ten years since first pouring beers in our Walmgate Taproom.

“The brewery bash is a celebration for those who’ve supported through our growth – from expanding the brewery operations, exporting to different countries across the world to opening new venues. It’s been an incredible ride and we’re still on it which is fantastic.”

Wayne Smith, managing director and co-founder, said: “What a decade it’s been – Lee and I couldn’t be happier with what we’ve achieved.

“In this time we’ve produced an incredible range of beers and created a successful business doing what we love.

“On Easter weekend we opened Goole Market Hall (our 10th venue in our 10th year!)
under our Brew+ brand and have celebrated one year at The Old Grey Mare in Clifton which has been a roaring success.

“But as nice as it is it to look back, we’ve also got eyes on the future too. I for one will be raising a glass to the next ten years.”

Andrew Stark, head of marketing, added: “Working with ten European breweries has been so rewarding as many new ideas and perspectives come from such collaborations which really get us challenging ourselves to do new things.

“The visual theme for each birthday beer celebrates people who are pioneers, innovators and trailblazers in their field which we felt was appropriate and in line with the spirit of craft brewing.

“Many people are fans our brand, and for these expect something special – with visual inspiration coming from the likes of Daft Punk, Neils Bohr and Enzo Ferrari to name but a few. But more importantly, expect some fantastic beers.”

Brew York’s Birthday Bash starts on Friday 17 April at 5pm, followed by two sessions on Saturday 18 April – all at Brew York HQ at Handley Tap, Osbaldwick.
