A York bakery will be featured on ITV tomorrow (Saturday).
Cosgriff and Sons, a family-run microbakery on Tower Street, is set to appear on James Martin’s Saturday Morning programme on ITV tomorrow.
Earlier this week, the bakery announced on social media that they could finally share the news that they’d be appearing on the show.
The process started when TV chef James Martin popped into Cosgriff and Sons “a little bit incognito” one Sunday morning and bought a sourdough loaf.
“A couple of days later we got a message from his personal assistant asking us to be on the show,” founder Paul Cosgriff explained. “Which is amazingly lucky.”

Paul, who’s originally from Australia and opened the York business in December 2020, then did a video call with James and sent him some loaves. For the show, the chef cooked a dish and interviewed Paul at the same time.
“It’s amazing, he just cooked and asked me questions. They made the whole process very easy.
“He’s a lovely guy, really easygoing. I’ve been watching him since I was a little kid in Australia and he was on TV over there. So it’s quite a surreal experience to get to talk to him.”
The show is on ITV1 tomorrow at 9.30am. Will Paul be hosting a watch party? “I’ll be working. I’ll be here, probably watching it. I’m excited for people here to see it, but also everyone back home because my family get to see what we’re doing over here.”
His customers are delighted he’s on the show. “We’re so lucky. We love York so much because of the support you get here.

“We’re so lucky with our regulars – they’re the beating heart of our business.”
Paul, a trained chef who has worked in top restaurants and hotels, launched the business after he broke his hip and felt he had to change his lifestyle.
He told YorkMix: “My youngest son was born with Down syndrome, and at the time I was trying to think of something I could do, that I could build for my kids to have.
“That’s why we’re Cosgriff & Sons bakery – the dream is for them to take over.
“We started off really small. We did like seven loaves in the first week, and then by the next October, we’re doing 300 loaves a week, just out of our house. And it continued to grow from there.”
Paul added: “We want to stay in York and keep going – be one of those places that people talk about which is synonymous with being in York. It’s a dream for us to keep that going.”
- You can catch Cosgriff and Sons on James Martin’s Saturday Morning from 9.30am tomorrow (22 November) on ITV.
