It’s always a treat to see York on our TV screens.
As well as pointing out locations and streets you’ve been to or recognise, it’s also a joy to see our beautiful city showcased on the big (or small) screen.
So here’s what you can tune in to to see York on our screens in 2026.
Patience
She’s back! Series two of hit TV drama Patience returns to Channel 4 from Saturday 7 January 2026 at 9pm, with all episodes available to stream from the 7 January.
Returning for an extended duration of eight episodes, Patience continues her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police after establishing herself as an invaluable member of the team, bringing her unique insight into a series of perplexing cases.
The stars were spotted filming for the second series in June, with scenes taking place inside and outside York Minster.
The new series of Patience features returning stars Ella Maisy Purvis as Patience Evans, Mark Benton as Calvin Baxter and Nathan Welsh as Jake Hunter. Joining the cast of favourites is Bafta award winning actor Jessica Hynes as DI Frankie Monroe.
We will also see the return of regular cast members Adrian Rawlins as Douglas Gilmore, Ali Ariaie as DC Will Akbari, Connor Curren as Billy Thompson, Liza Sadovy as Dr. Loretta Parsons and Tom Lewis as Elliot Scott.
Before the new series airs in January, catch up with all the episodes so far here.
Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint

A brand new Christmas film set in York is coming out in 2026! Filming took place in the city earlier this year, and the Christmas comedy is set to star many famous names – including Celebrity Traitors favourite Celia Imrie, Richard E Grant, John Bradley, Nigel Planer and Karl Pilkington.
Produced by SUMS Film & Media in association with Ripon-based Shush Films, the movie is directed by Jack Spring and written by Chris Boyle-McQuarry.
John Bradley plays Aubrey Flint, who has a deep disdain for Christmas. “When he’s sentenced to community service at Willow Lodge, a charming but struggling retirement home, Aubrey finds himself begrudgingly roped into directing a chaotic resident-led production of A Christmas Carol,” said the British Comedy Guide.
Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint can be seen on screens for Christmas 2026. Can’t wait until next year? Here are four festive films set in York and North Yorkshire.
A Yorkshire Pub with Jon Richardson

It’s a little further afield than York, but keep an eye out for this new TV show that features comedian Jon Richardson helping to give a North Yorkshire pub a new lease of life.
The observational series A Yorkshire Pub with Jon Richardson will follow Jon as he works with the community of Fadmoor, North Yorkshire, to restore The Plough, a historic village pub that has been closed for more than a decade.
It will be a four-episode series on More4.
A confirmed air date for the show is yet to be released but filming and renovations are underway, with the community hoping to open the pub in the spring of 2026.
In case you missed it…
York also appeared several times on our screens this year – which you can catch up on on streaming platforms.
Steam Train Diaries on More4 was filmed at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and across the stunning North York Moors. It follows steam aficionado ‘Piglet’ Paul Middleton on the footplate, and an army of staff and volunteers whose hard graft, traditional skills and passion help keep this iconic line running. One event the series covers is when a giant wildfire broke out across the North York Moors, and threatened the steam train services.
Historic house Castle Howard was featured on two Channel 4 documentaries in 2025. In Great States from Above the show uses state-of-the-art drone and aerial photography to highlight Britain’s most historic and impressive estates, with one episode dedicated to the North Yorkshire stately home.
And in A Very British Christmas, follow designers Adrian Lillie and Charlotte Lloyd Webber from CLW Event Design as they create festive experiences for iconic British stately homes, with one episode dedicated to Castle Howard’s extravaganza Christmas at Castle Howard with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Catch young York fashion designer Emily Brookes in competition show RE/style – an international second-hand fashion competition, that showcases eight fashion designers who go head-to-head to turn pre-loved pieces into showstopping runway looks for the chance of taking their entire collection to London Fashion Week.
