You can take the man out of Yorkshire…
Actor Charlie Heaton recently gave a shoutout to Brid and Scarborough while promoting series five of the Netflix smash-hit Stranger Things.
The actor, who grew up in the East Yorkshire coastal town of Bridlington and is starring as Jonathan Byers in the aforementioned TV show, relayed the story of getting banned from the cinema in Bridlington and consequently cycling to Scarborough instead in a MTV UK interview.
“Me and my friends, we got banned from the local cinema in Bridlington,” he told his American Stranger Things co-stars Joe Keery and Natalia Dyer.
To try and sneak his way in to the cinema, Charlie tried spray dyeing his haor and wearing a baseball cap – but his foolproof disguise was detected.
What was the film Charlie and his friends were desperate to see? The 2006 DreamWorks animated film Over The Hedge.
“We did get to go see it,” he continued. “We got on our bikes and we biked to the next town along called Scarborough – it was like a three hour bike ride. We didn’t tell our parents because there’s no way we’d be allowed.
“At one point we got lost on the cliffs, we had to carry our bikes up the cliff.
“But we finally got there and saw Over The Hedge.”
