Watch: Police storm York house in crime crackdown which nets machetes and a sword

Police knocked down two doors in York as part of a crime crackdown yesterday (Wednesday).

And in a video of one of the raids, the resident can be heard through the doorbell asking: “Why are you coming in?”

The answer, according to North Yorkshire Police, was to make life difficult for the city’s criminals.

During the day of action in York, Selby and Tadcaster, eight people were arrested for offences including drug offences, theft and cycle crime. 

There were two raids in York. Chief Constable Tim Forber joined officers at an address in Clifton was linked to money laundering.

And a warrant was executed on Fourth Avenue in Tang Hall.

Inside the property officers discovered a 100 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, four machetes, a sword and approximately £1,000 in cash.

Four people, two men aged 23 and 34 as well as two boys aged 17 were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

Also in York, two were arrested for immigration offences, £5,000 cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and hundreds of illegal vapes, under-the-counter tobacco, unregistered medication and out of date food supplies were taken out of circulation

Cycle crime was one of the key themes at a police event outside York Minster.

York’s new beat Inspector, Jen Stockwell was there, to meet local people and listen to their concerns. 

Officers used special anti-tamper stickers on bikes and ensured that they registered them on the BikeRegister database.

In Tadcaster, there was a drugs raid on Kelcbar Close, and shoplifting arrest.

At night, an anti-burglary operation saw teams in plain and marked cars focus on villages south of Selby. Drones and night vision goggles were also used.

All the action was part of Operation Tornado, aimed at disrupting criminals across the county.

Area commander for York and Selby Superintendent Ed Haywood-Noble said: “This high intensity activity shows that we will not accept criminal activity in York and Selby.

“Working closely with local people in our communities we remain focused on flushing out those who are responsible for committing crime and bringing them to justice.”
