It has been confirmed that the Morrisons Daily store on Moorcroft Road in Woodthorpe – which also hosts a Post Office counter – will close on 1 August.
A Morrisons representative gave the news in an e-mail to Councillor Stephen Fenton. It said:
“We have carefully considered all comments and suggestions received during the consultation period. Unfortunately, there are no viable options to achieve a break even position and the store will close on 1st August 2026.”
A request that the store be kept open until a temporary or permanent home could be found for the Post Office counter has been turned down.
Meanwhile the Post Office has published information on its website confirming the closure of the Woodthorpe counter. This states
“The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we will continue to work hard to restore services in the area.
“We are currently investigating the options available to enable us to reinstate a Post Office service to the local community, this may include the vacancy being advertised on our website www.runapostoffice.co.uk “
