York Colour And Light has returned – with twice the excitement!
Back for its fourth year, the spectacular light show this year features two of the city’s historic buildings for the first time– York Castle Museum and Clifford’s Tower.
They are transformed by the amazing moving projections telling the story of some of York’s most colourful characters.
The ten-minute show is free at the Eye of York every night from tonight (Wednesday) till 22 February – you can watch as often as you like.

The final hour of each evening features a quiet hour with reduced noise and crowd levels.
Colour And Light is brought to the city by the York BID (Business Improvement District).
Carl Alsop, operations manager at the BID, told YorkMix: “This time, it’s all about people from York’s history – but maybe not the people you’d expect.
“It’s about those who’ve left a darker stain on York’s history the scoundrels and the Rogues. We’re looking at Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin like you might expect, but we’re also looking at Mary Bateman and Swift Nick, gladiators and Vikings.
“We’re really digging into that kind of rebellious past.”
You’ll have to watch the show a few times to spot everything, he says.
“Obviously we’ve got our Easter eggs in there. There is a cat that continues to reappear, but can be can be missed a few times.
“We’ve put some things you might recognise from the city that are a little more hidden. And the one to spot is there is a particularly long duck hidden in there somewhere as well.”
It’s put on in partnership with York Museums Trust and English Heritage, and made possible thanks to funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Last year’s event attracted 100,000 people to watch it at York Minster and Carl would love to beat that total.
It’s a great way to get people into the city at a quieter time of year, he added.
