Walmgate remains closed to traffic this morning (Monday) following yesterday’s problems.
As YorkMix reported, a major water main burst yesterday, spilling debris across the road and sending a torrent of water down the street.
The water has now been shut off but the road is closed between Merchantgate and St Denys Road.

Buses are being diverted. First York says: “Services are diverting via multiple routes. Passengers should board from Piccadilly instead of Merchantgate for the 10 and U2.”
All the diversions are listed here.
Yorkshire Water engineers are working on fixing the rupture but we have no timetable as to when the road will reopen.
