Meet trainee police puppy Benji.
He’s an enthusiastic cocker spaniel who was gifted to North Yorkshire Police by a retired officer and is training to become a specialist search dog.
As you can see in this video, he’s been at police HQ in Northallerton showing off his concentration and ball-finding skills to student officers.
He looks cute and cuddly, but one day he could be performing a crucial role in keeping North Yorkshire safe.
These dogs have some of the best noses for drug-detecting with broad nostrils, which help in sniffing out narcotics. They may also help in detecting human remains and even fake currency.
