A vehicle crashed into a road sign in York this afternoon (Wednesday).

The collision happened on the A64 at Bilbrough Top and emergency services were called at 1.26pm.

Firefighters from Acomb went to the incident, which involved a single vehicle.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The passenger was out of the vehicle on arrival.

“However the driver required the crew’s assistance to exit the vehicle due to passing traffic.

“Crews then administered first aid to the passsenger who had sustained minor injuries who later self presented to hospital to be checked over.

“Crews continued to carry out traffic management and scene safety.”

It was one of three 999 calls to the A64 today. Earlier, at 12.18pm, firefighters from Malton and Pickering went to a car fire on the road near Malton.

They put it out and then left the incident in the hands of highways officers.

And at 3.13pm, crews from Tadcaster, York and Acomb went to a two vehicle crash on the A64 near Tadcaster.

All the occupants were out on their arrival. “Crews ensured the safety of the vehicle by cooling the engine with a hose reel jet as precaution and assisted highways by manouevring the car from the roadway,” the spokesperson said.

“The fire crew gave advice to the occupants of the vehicle to seek medical attention if required.”
