Vandals damage ancient North Yorkshire castle

Vandals have struck at a North Yorkshire castle.

They sprayed Pickering Castle with yellow paint.

It happened between midnight on Tuesday 15 April and 3.39pm on Thursday 17 April.

The ruins of Pickering Castle are what remains of the medieval fortification first constructed in the 12th century.

The castle served as a temporary prison for Richard II in 1399. It is a scheduled monument.
