‘Upsetting and disappointing’: Vandals strike at York attraction

Vandals have struck again at a top York attraction.

They broke into Murton Park, the living history attraction which is also home to the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, at about 6pm on Wednesday.

In a post on social media, Murton Park said they were “deeply saddened” by the damage at its Roman fort.

Popular with schools, the fort allows youngsters to learn about life as a new recruit to the Roman Army and the wider impact of Roman civilisation on life in Britain.

Murton Park wrote: “Many items that we use in our educational days have been vandalised.

“Not only is this disappointing for the park, but it is upsetting for the school children who benefit from using these facilities.

“If anyone local has any information or saw anyone, please send us a private message.”

The revelation left many dismayed. “What the hell is wrong with these people? It beggars belief that these idiots can be so nasty,” one wrote.

Another said: “Absolutely mindless! I’m so sorry.”

It is not the first such incident at Murton Park. In June 2024, vandals broke in and caused “severe damage” at the attraction.
