Updated: York city centre road reopened after car crashed into a wall

A main road in York was sealed off and emergency services were called in after a car crashed into a wall late last night (Tuesday).

Pictures show car parts strewn across Gillygate and one vehicle which had mounted the pavement.

Witnesses who live there said that the car crashed into a wall, also hitting a lamppost in the process.

YorkMix has seen video which shows one man being arrested at the scene.

The council arrived to clear up debris and fix the lamppost that had been damaged.

Gillygate is clear and running normally this morning (Wednesday, 5 May).

Police have not commented further on the incident yet.
