‘Torrential snow’ blamed for three-car crash on motorway

Police are investigating a three-car crash that happened in North Yorkshire in poor weather.

As we reported yesterday, the collision happened on the A1M near Leeming Bar services.

Now North Yorkshire Police have released more details. The incident involved a white BMW 1 Series, black BMW 3 Series and blue Suzuki Vitara. They crashed at 3.05pm near Ainderby Quernhow, south of Leeming Bar.

At the time, the weather conditions were described a “torrential downpour of snow and sleet”.

The drivers involved said the sudden change in conditions led to a loss of control.

The woman and man in the Suzuki were taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering seatbelt and airbag-related chest injuries.

All three vehicles had to be safely recovered which meant the full closure of lane one while the emergency services and highways worked at the scene.

The southbound carriageway fully reopened just after 5pm. Police are appealing for dashcam footage and witnesses – you can get in touch on the numbers below.
