Video: Thunderstorm weather warning issued for Friday

The Met Office has issued a Thunderstorm Yellow Alert for North Yorkshire tomorrow.

Many areas will miss the worst they say, but thunderstorms could bring disruption in places.

The weather radar shows a band of rain moving across the country in a north east direction from about 04:00 tomorrow morning (Friday 26 June).

Thunderstorms may produce sudden, gusty winds with 50 to 60 mph possible. Frequent lightning, hail and heavy rain (possibly 15-20 mm in an hour) are additional hazards.

Once it’s cleared temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees again.

There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

Where lightning strikes or flooding occurs, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
