This is the latest of a series of racially-aggravated crimes in York. On 1 October, a man was attacked and knocked unconscious by a gang of youths in Tang Hall.
A week earlier, liquid was thrown from a car at a victim sitting at a bus stop on Poppleton Road.
Police are also investigating an attack on a student at the University of York, abuse directed at a taxi driver outside a city centre restaurant and a number of instances of racist graffiti in parks and at a restaurant.
Residents told a recent City of York Council meeting that racial slurs have been levelled at children amid an increase in bigotry.
