The countdown to the Altra Yorkshire Marathon is officially underway – with just 16 weeks to go until thousands of runners take to the start line in York.
Delivered by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All in partnership with title sponsor Altra, the much-loved event is set to be one of the highlights of the city’s sporting calendar.
On Sunday 18 October, the marathon will once again bring together first-time runners, seasoned athletes, charity fundraisers and wheelchair participants in a powerful celebration of community spirit, resilience and achievement.
The scenic course begins and ends at the University of York, guiding runners through the city’s historic streets and past iconic landmarks including York Minster, before heading out into the surrounding countryside.
From start to finish, participants can expect an unforgettable atmosphere, with thousands of spectators lining the route alongside volunteers, schools, local groups and performers who come together to support and celebrate every runner – and YorkMix will be there with our own cheer station to give some rousing encouragement!
As with all Run For All events, fundraising remains at the heart of the marathon. Participants are encouraged to run for a charity close to their heart or support one of the event’s partner charities.
These include York Foodbank, Yorkshire Cancer Research, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Dementia Forward, The Island, St Leonard’s Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, York Mind and Children with Cancer UK.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All said: “The course is known for being fast, flat and welcoming, making it ideal for runners of all abilities – whether you’re chasing a personal best or taking on your very first marathon.
“It’s a truly special event that brings together people from all walks of life for an unforgettable day in a fantastic city.
“For those who aren’t quite ready to take on the full 26.2 miles, the Altra 10 Miler is a brilliant alternative, offering the same incredible atmosphere over a shorter distance. We’d encourage everyone to get involved and be part of something special this October.”
