A severe electrical storm caused problems on the North Yorkshire coast last night.
The skies over Filey were lit up by lightning strikes followed by loud thunderclaps.
It caused a number of problems in the area. A house in Gristhorpe was struck by lightning which blew the chimney off the roof.
Firefighters were also called to an incident in Gristhorpe at 8.23pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Scarborough and Filey responded to a report of a telegraph pole that had been struck by lightning resulting in a power surge that affected a number of properties causing electrical sockets to blow and a loss of power.
“Crews carried out house to house checks for signs of fire and giving advice to residents. The incident was left with electricity board engineers.”
