A footpath has been closed and a safety expert brought in after a piece of timber fell from a York pub onto the footpath.
The piece of wood from the Golden Slipper on Goodramgate came down onto the pavement shortly after 10.30am.
Fortunately no one was hurt. The pub is open and continuing to trade as normal.

Publicans Lyndsay and Stuart Weston told YorkMix they heard a bang when the wood came down.
Initially they wondered if the pub’s first floor jetty had been struck by a wagon. But the affected beam is too high up.
They have taped off the pavement below the jetty of the pub as a safety precaution.
City of York Council inspectors have been to check and are happy with the cordon. A more permanent one is like to be installed soon.
The affected beam helps to prop up the second floor of the medieval building.

A structural engineer was examining the damage and taking photographs this afternoon.
One theory is that the damage has been caused by the wood drying out in the record temperatures of the recent heatwaves.
The next step maybe to install some netting below the jetty before scaffolding can be installed for a closer inspection.
This part of the Golden Slipper is timber framed and dates back to about 1500 and was originally built as a house.
It is Grade II listed.
