The team behind a thriving retail group in York have bought one of the oldest shops in the city.
Marcus Doyle and Warren Booth have acquired number 64 Goodramgate, part of Lady Row, York’s oldest houses.
It was last home to Owl Adventures, the attraction which shut after an online backlash.
Marcus and Warren are the duo behind the Yorkshire Soap Company and The Imaginarium in Blake Street and The Society of Alchemists in Shambles.
They are also converting Monk Bar into a retail outlet.
So this is their second Grade I listed property and what will become their fifth shop.
Marcus told YorkMix: “We saw it on the market and couldn’t resist!

“If I’m honest, we have so many ideas for the shop but nothing set in stone just yet. We want to preserve the building for many years co come and celebrate its history before doing anything.
“With the imminent opening of our next shop at Monk Bar, we need to focus on that for now, as soon as that’s up and running we will put all our energy into Goodramgate.”
The guide price of the shop when it was on the market with Blacks was £345,000.

Lady Row was commissioned in 1316 as a terrace of tenements. They were to be let out to provide income for a priest at next door Holy Trinity.
A sign in the window from the Yorkshire Soap Company says: “We are extremely proud to have acquired this historic property at 64 Goodramgate, one of the oldest shop buildings in the UK.
“An exciting new chapter is about to unfold and we look forward to welcoming you soon.”
