Swans disturbed by fishing at Rowntree Park Lake

There have been numerous reports of youths fishing near the swans nest at Rowntree Park in York.

Fishing is not allowed there.

Friends of the park say they are relying on the community to help gently remind people.

This is really important because of the risk of hooks injuring ducks and swans, the fish spawning season, and the presence of frogs and tadpoles.

Discarded lines can also cause lasting harm to wildlife.

They have added stencilled signs along the paths, but they are being ignored. The more people who feel able to politely mention it, the better they added.

The nearest Swan Rescue charity is in Selby. Signs of injured swans can be logged via their helpline – 01757 544554
