Storm Amy weather warning now covers part of North Yorkshire

The first storm of the autumn is coming, forecasters are warning that heavy rain and strong winds are on the way.

Storm Amy is due to sweep in on Friday. And now the Met Office has extended its yellow weather warning for wind to parts of North Yorkshire.

The warning runs from 3pm tomorrow (Friday, 3 October) to 11.59pm on Saturday.

It covers Ripon, Thirsk, Helmsley and Pickering, and all points north.

The warning means there’s the possibility of power cuts, and transport disruption on the road and rails and in the air.

There could be risks to people and buildings from flying debris. At the coast there is a chance of “danger to life” from large waves.

The forecast for York is heavy rain tomorrow, with gusty winds and rain on Saturday. Sunday is predicted to be dry.
