Spontaneous combustion of laundry starts fire in North Yorkshire pub

Firefighters were called out in the early hours to a pub fire with an unusual cause.

Crews from Knaresborough and Harrogate went to the pub on Bond End, Knaresborough, at 2.24am today.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “This was caused by spontaneous combustion of warm laundry in a basket, and caused fire damage to the laundry only.

“There was smoke damage to the entire property.

“Crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, a thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.”
