Businesses in the centre of Selby are coming together to celebrate Pride for the first time, in an event led by SeLGBTQ+ (Selby LGBTQ+ ), and Up for Yorkshire.
It’s supported by local retailers, charity shops and community partners.
Throughout June, and particularly during this final week of the month, shops and businesses are displaying Pride-themed decorations, bunting and posters.
The initiative aims to create a welcoming and visible show of support for the LGBTQ+ community, helping residents and visitors identify safe and inclusive spaces while raising awareness and encouraging conversations across the town.
Local charity shops have also been invited to take part by creating imaginative window displays using donated items, with ideas including rainbow-themed arrangements of books, clothing and mannequins.
It’s designed to encourage more visitors to the town centre.
Chris Hailey-Norris, Chief Executive Officer for Up For Yorkshire said: “It’s a simple but powerful opportunity for businesses and organisations to show that Selby is a welcoming town for everyone.
“We hope the campaign encourages people to visit the town centre, support local businesses and celebrate the diversity that makes our communities stronger.”
