A school and college are closed today because of a power cut.
Selby College and Staynor Hall Community Primary School have shut.
Around 1,000 homes were also without electricity in the Staynor Hall area of Selby this morning.
Selby College posted on Facebook: “Due to an ongoing power cut, Selby College has had to close the site today.
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we hope that the issue will be resolved shortly. Please stay tuned to our social media channels for further updates.
“In the meantime, we encourage all students to carry out independent study whilst the site remains closed.”
Although the power cut was planned, not everyone was notified in advance
Independent utility infrastructure GTC sent out a message which said: “We apologise for not notifying you in advance about the planned power cut in your area today, Monday 26th January, which is due to essential maintenance work.
“We understand how inconvenient this is, and we take full responsibility for not providing you with timely notice.”
It added that because they hadn’t notified customers about the outage they may be entitled to compensation.
The power was due to come back on at 11am.
