A retrospective planning application has been submitted for extra accommodation at a North Yorkshire holiday park.
The proposal for Ashfield Caravan Park in Kirby Misperton, near Malton, seeks approval for work already carried out.
It includes the construction of nine lodge bases, parking spaces and access roads, alongside plans for six additional lodges.
According to planning documents, the development would replace previously approved plans for 11 twin-unit lodges with 15 smaller single-unit lodges around the site’s fishing lake.
Planning agents said the application reflects changing customer demand within the holiday sector.
The submitted design and access statement says: “There have been evolving trends in the type and details of holiday accommodation which customers are seeking and this application is in response to current commercial feedback and demand.”
Ashfield Caravan Park has operated since the late 1980s and has gradually expanded from a touring caravan and camping site into a larger holiday park with static caravans, lodges and leisure facilities.
The planning statement argues that the development would support tourism and the rural economy while having limited visual impact due to existing landscaping and screening around the site.
Documents submitted with the application state the park is “a very well managed, established business” and say the proposals would not cause harm to the character of the area or neighbouring residents.
The application also states the site has no known flooding history and that the new lodges would remain subject to holiday occupancy restrictions.
Planning documents conclude that the development would contribute to the local economy and support employment linked to the tourism sector.
