Runners in York raise £160,000

Thousands of people flocked to Knavesmire today (May 3) to take part in the Race for Life.

People of all ages take on the 10km and 5km challenges

in the annual race, raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Children and adults are also given the chance to take on the Pretty Muddy obstacle course where they will climb, crawl and slide their way around a 5km course.

Approximately £160,000 has been raised so far with 2300 participants taking part across the four events.

Among those helping organise the event was warm-up coordinator Rachel Speight-McGregor – who has worked for Cancer Research UK for 15 years, but has taken part in the Race for Life for 24 years and volunteered for the charity for 35 years in total.Cancer Research UK is the only charity that researches all 200 cancers. We couldn’t do this without our volunteers who are absolutely brilliant and here in York, whatever the weather, the people of the city will be here dancing and prancing around. I just love it.”
