Part of the road that links York to Hull has started to melt in the heatwave.
The problem is affecting the old road surface on the A1079 as it approaches the new Jock’s Lodge roundabout linking to the A164 outside Beverley.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council says: “We are aware of issues with the old road surface on the A1079.
“The heat is causing some of the old bitumen in the road surface to melt and seep through to the surface.
“This is on the approach to the new Jock’s Lodge roundabout. However, this is old surface dressing that is not part of the Jock’s Lodge scheme.
“Gritters are out spreading sand on the affected road surfaces.”
Repairs have already been carried out on the York side with further repairs being carried out last night (Thursday 9 July).
“The road remains open, but please avoid the area if possible,” the council said.
