Fake banknotes used to buy £500 phone in York

Police are searching for this man after fake banknotes were used for a purchase in York.

It happened after a resident put their phone up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

The buyer went to the address on Osbaldwick Lane and paid £500 for the phone in cash.

Then it was discovered the £20 notes were fakes.

It happened at 2.21pm on Friday, 12 June. Police today released these images taken from the victim’s Ring doorbell camera of the man they want to talk to as part of their enquiries.
