Rowntree Park reopens after four weeks – thanks to ‘amazing’ effort by volunteers and council staff

Just in time for the spring sunshine, Rowntree Park has finally reopened.

The York park closed four weeks ago after being inundated by the February floodwaters.

After the waters receded, the clean-up began. And it’s required a huge effort to get it ready for the opening today.

Friends of Rowntree Park has thanked the ‘amazing’ volunteers who have put in hours of work cleaning paths and removing debris.

Council workers have been in the last few days with machinery to boost the clean up.

Today (Wednesday) the Friends of Rowntree Park said:

Rowntree Park is OPEN!

It’s still soggy on grass areas and things still to be done, but it’s great to have it back! Spring has been blooming behind closed gates – go and check out the Cherry Plum blossom trees!

They are still looking for volunteers – “there are still things to do, plus the areas we garden have taken a hit and we need help tidying, working out what’s survived or not”.
