Amber heat alert extended to the Selby area

The Met Office has updated its AMBER heat alert for Monday through to Friday again.

It covers places like Southampton, Oxford, Brighton, London, Birmingham and as far north as Selby on Tuesday into Wednesday

Currently temperatures in reach 32c. The rest of North Yorkshire will see sunny weather with highs of between 26c and 31c. However the Amber heat alert may well end up being extended further north as the situation is fluid.

Central London is expected to record around 38c.

When the Met Officer issues heat alerts it says: “More people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes and rivers leading to an increased risk of water safety incidents.

“Adverse health effects are likely to be experienced by those vulnerable to extreme heat.

“The wider population is likely to experience some issues including sunburn or heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue).

“Some delays to road, rail and air travel are possible, with potential for welfare issues for those who experience prolonged delays.”
