Updated: Residents hear ‘massive bang’ as crews deal with serious fire

Firefighters dealt with a serious incident in North Yorkshire tonight (Thursday).

They sent several appliances to a fire in Northallerton at 8.33pm.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service posted at 9.41pm: “We have a number of fire crews dealing with a fire to a commercial building on Tannery Lane in Northallerton.

Incident location

“People nearby are advised to keep doors and windows closed.”

Tannery Lane is an industrial park home to several different commercial enterprises.

A Northallerton resident posted on Facebook: “Anyone hear that massive bang and puff of smoke near the new estate?”

On Friday morning, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service issued this update: “Both crews from Northallerton, Thirsk and Stokesley responded to a fire inside an industrial unit.

“All persons had evacuated prior to the crews arrival with no reported injuries.

“After the fire had been extinguished carefully to prevent water run off, multiple firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to dampen down any hotspots identified with the thermal imaging camera.

“The incident was then handed back to the responsible person and a fire investigation will take place during daylight hours to determine the cause.”
