Firefighters were called out to a fire alarm in a residential property early this morning (Tuesday).
A crew from Acomb responded at 12.21am to the alarm at a home on Holgate Road.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Whilst checking over the property they found one of the residents igniting small pieces of paper.
“They assisted by ventilating to clear the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.”
