A serial shoplifter has been banned from entering certain York stores for five years.
Lauren Chadwick, 31, was described as a “relentless” thief by York police.
She has stolen numerous times from shops in the city. And her many convictions include for 11 shop thefts last December.
At York Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday), a criminal behaviour order was imposed to tackle her criminal activity.
It means that Chadwick is not allowed to enter these stores for the next five years:
• Co-op in Beagle Ridge Drive;
• Morrisons Daily in Gale Lane;
• Heron Foods in Front Street, Acomb;
• Co-op in York Road.
She’s also banned from placing items in anything other than a shopping basket or trolley prior to payment, or making any attempt conceal items from view prior to payment.
Breaching any of the prohibitions of the order is an offence, and could result in a jail sentence.

Acting Sgt Ben Ambler, of York Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Shop theft has a financial impact on local businesses, and causes stress and anxiety to staff who are simply trying to do their jobs.
“Victims have described the impact of Chadwick’s relentless behaviour as going ‘far beyond the immediate loss of goods’, and provided statements to the court detailing the significant damage to staff wellbeing and business growth.
“This court order gives us extra powers to help protect York businesses – and makes it clear that this kind of behaviour will be met with swift and decisive action.”
