Protest by Trans rights activist in York

A year after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legal definition of a woman, trans rights activists have gathered in York.

Dozens of people demonstrated in St Helen’s Square on Saturday (April 11).

It was due to the ruling by the UK’s highest court last April that the terms “woman” and “sex” in the 2010 Equality Act “refer to a biological woman and biological sex”.

However, the protesters felt the ruling had caused uncertainty for transgender people, especially when using the toilet.
