Promises of action made to MP over numerous power cuts

Northern Powergrid has made a promise to a North Yorkshire MP that action will be taken to deal with numerous power cuts affecting customers in the Selby District.

Selby’s Keir Mather says he has had a detailed reply to a letter he wrote demanding action over the state of the electricity supply in his constituency.

There have been a large number of interruptions to the supply in parts of the town and villages nearby over the last few months leaving consumers asking what is going on.

Keir Mather says: “I promised that I would write to the CEO of Northern Powergrid and demand answers.

“So let me tell you some of the key bits of what they’ve said in response.”

“The first thing is, the CEO has acknowledged the scale of the problem, and it’s about time, because these power cuts are devastating for communities.

“The second thing is they’ve done a helicopter patrol and they found lots of places where the vegetation is growing across the power lines.

The Selby Labour MP says he’s been assured that they are going to cut all that back which he describes as another really positive step.

Another commitment they’ve made is that they’re going to accelerate some of the infrastructure improvements to make the lines better.

The MP added: “Next month, I’ve organised a meeting with Northern Powergrid and representatives from lots of different parish councils, because at the end of the day, I don’t just want promises on a page. I want concrete action and a proper timeline to deliver it.

“So as soon as I get any information from that meeting, you will be the first to know. But if you need to raise anything in the meantime just drop me an email at this address. [email protected]
