Pony and trap procession could cause traffic delays in York

Police are alerting drivers to possible delays caused by an event in York this weekend.

There will be a Traveller‑led pony and trap procession being held on Saturday (18 April).

It’s due to take place around around 11.30am to 5pm.

In a message, York PC James Dye wrote: “This event was run last year and presented some traffic disruption.

“As such this message is to be aware of the potential for the same again. Whilst every effort will be made to ensure minimal disruption is felt by all, this cannot be guaranteed.”

He said the procession is believed to start from James Street and the potential route could take it up to New Earswick, towards Water Lane, Acomb, along South Bank and back to James Street.

“This could be in the opposite way round or changes could be made on the day,” PC Dye added.

“We will be working dynamically in order to ensure minimal disruption throughout the day. This message is for awareness to allow for extra travel time.”
